Star Trek: Murder on the Titan – A Murder Mystery Game

Star Trek: Murder on the Titan – A Murder Mystery Game

Over Christmas, we sat down to play Star Trek: Murder on the Titan, a murder mystery game set in the Star Trek universe, and it turned out to be a brilliant way to spend an evening together.

If you enjoy solving puzzles and piecing together clues, this game really hits the sweet spot. Your objective is to clear Captain Liam Shaw of a serious crime, and the investigation unfolds through a combination of physical components and a companion app. The app delivers some of the key messages via audio, narrated by Todd Stashwick who reprises his role as Captain Shaw, which adds a strong sense of atmosphere and makes the experience feel far more immersive. It’s almost like you’re taking part in an episode as it plays out.

To use the app you scan your Starfleet Command badge, included in the box. We did find, due to our very bright lights, that the app had a difficult time scanning the badge. However, a replica of the badge is printed in the rule book and this is much easier to scan if you play in a room with harsh lighting.

One of the things we appreciated most was how accessible the game is. You don’t need to be a hardcore detective to enjoy it; the mystery draws you in naturally, and everyone around the table can contribute. Discussing theories, suspects, and motives becomes part of the fun, creating those classic “wait… what if?” moments that are at the heart of any great whodunnit.

The game is in three parts so you could play this over three sessions, or you could do what we did and just play through the whole game in one sitting.

If you love murder mystery games, enjoy story-driven gameplay, or are simply looking for something a little different to play with friends or family, Star Trek: Murder on the Titan is well worth checking out. It was a real highlight of our Christmas gaming and one I’d happily recommend to fellow mystery lovers.
